December 12 || 12:41 amI never thought it was possible. But here it is. This feeling of dislike. I actually dislike something made by David Fincher.
I don't like Panic Room. People might crucify me but I don't and there's nothing I can do to dispel it.
And it's not supposed to happen. The movie had a lot going for it. It starred Jodie Foster. It had support from Jared Leto and Forest Whitaker. It had an interesting albeit rehashed plot. For crying out loud, it's directed by David Fincher.
But it failed. The action wasn't active enough. The suspense wasn't thrilling enough. The direction not as original. But I'm pointing the biggest finger on the script. I shouldn't have expected much from David Koepp. There was no story to push. And frankly, it did not try to push anything at all. Much less work on characterization. The characters are running around like headless chickens. Especially Jodie's character. No backbone and pure stupidity.
Sigh. It's just that I really want to like this film. Sayang. It has a nice opening credit pa man din.
Sa mga hindi nakababatid, Human Rights Day noong isang araw. At nagtungo akong Mendiola. Hindi para makipag-ra-ra-ra-rally kundi may nilakad sa isa sa mga kolehiyo sa U-Belt.
Kakaiba ang nadatnan ko. Bukod sa tumpok ng mga estudyante na nagkalat sa Recto, mapapansin kaagad ang mga rallyista. Mga matatanda't bata na sa isang tingin pa lang, mapapatango ka't masasabing aah! aktibista.
Ngunit ang masayang pansinin ay ang reaksiyon ng mga estudyante. Kung sakali kasing sa Katipunan iyan nangyari, malamang sa malamang marami na ang kinakabahan at baka magkagulo. Ngunit sa kalye ni pareng Claro, klarong sanay na ang mga bata natin. Balewala sa kanila. Sanay na. Ika nga ng isang babaeng narinig ko, "hirap na naman nito sumakay." O ang isa na, "maya na tayo umuwi. May rally pa. Traffic."
Hanggang doon lang. Hindi sila nababagabag kahit maraming mga pulis. At sa panulukan ng CEU at San Beda'y may barikada na barb wire at nagkalat ang mga kalasag at batuta. Handa na sa riot na mangyayari. Hindi na sila naaantig. Hinahakbangan na lang nila ang mga nakalapag na kalasag tulad ng paghakbang nila sa mga nakatilapon na slogan o ng basurang nakahandusay sa sahig.
Mas nakakatawa pa na pagkatapos ng mga nagrarally ay ang barikada. At matapos ang barikada at mga pulis? Sa harap ng gate ng Malacanan Palace? Mga magagarang kotse ng mga taga Beda at College of the Holy Spirit. Mga kotseng dilaw, matingkad na berde, pink. May mga spoiler, naka-lowered, atbp. Tipong ang ginaguwardiyahan ng mga pulis ay hindi si Ate Glo kund ang mga kotseng ito.
Hindi na rin sila nakikinig sa rally. Sa tapat nga mismo ng monumento, ang sentro ng rally, ang McDonnel's Stationery Store. Sa labas nito'y linya ng mga photocopiers. Nagpapaypay ang mga manang pa-xerox at tuloy sa pagkopya ng libro tungkol sa mga sakit at notes sa apdo samantalang sumisigaw ang tagapagsalita sa rally na si Gloria ay tuta ng kano at ni Bush.
Tuloy ang ikot ng mundo nila. Kung sa bagay, ang edukasiyon nga naman ang susi sa kinabukasan, ang sabi nila.
