October 19, 2002 || 2:09 amI am so happy. My little sister's taste in music has developed. Before all she listened to were Side A ballads, boy bands and Top 40 hits. Not that there's anything wrong with that but I know there is more beautiful music she should discover. And she did it all on her own.
It started with Eminem (a decent start may I add). Last Christmas she wanted Eminem's Marshall Mathers LP and N'Sync's No Strings Attached. Then she discovered Fiona Apple among my CDs and before I knew it she's singing Paper Bag. After that, for a couple of Sundays, I woke up to Radiohead's Everything In Its Right Place, her wake up music.
Just this evening I found a compilation CD she asked a friend to burn for her. And they are all beautiful songs. I'm a proud brother. Just look at the tracks she picked.
1. Aimee Mann - Wise Up
2. Tori Amos - 1,000 Oceans
3. Eddie Brickell - Circle of Friends
4. Ani di Franco - Untouchable Face
5. Frente! - Girl
6. Fiona Apple - Across the Universe
7. Sarah McLachlan - Blackbird
8. Fiona Apple - Never is a Promise
9. Janet Jackson - Everytime
10. Sarah McLachlan - Adia
11. Dave Matthews Band - The Space Between
12. Counting Crows - Colorblind
13, Dave Matthews Band - Where Are You Going?
14. Coldplay - In My Place
15. Massive Attack - Teardrop
16. Oasis - Stop Crying Your Heart Out
17. New Radicals - Crying Like A Church On Monday
18. Tenacious D - Wonderboy
She likes these songs despite getting flak from her friends. They do not listen to these type of songs and they find them obscure and weird.
I feel so much like an early Christian who has converted a pagan. Now, I'm trying to make them read good novels and poetry.
May aviary sila.
Sana masabi ko rin, "I had a farm in Africa."
